Yes, the mileage listed is correct! We offer for sale a 1977 Volkswagen Beetle with only 2874 miles. This is a genuine North American specification Beetle that has been properly stored and is now freshly serviced and road ready. As would be expected of such a low mileage pampered example, it is 100% original and rust free. Please know that this VW has not been restored. It is an authentic original example that presents as it was delivered in 1977.

We purchased this car from the extensive collection of a lifelong Volkswagen enthusiast who was both knowledgeable and extremely particular about his acquisitions. We were offered the opportunity to purchase it only because its previous owner needed the space while simultaneously coming to the realization that this car needed to be driven and enjoyed rather than being left to hibernate in storage indefinitely.

After displaying the car for a while as a showpiece and object of pride in our show room, as fellow enthusiasts we agreed with the previous owner’s philosophy that this car must be put on the road and experienced to be appreciated. Before indulging ourselves in the thrill of driving a true time capsule VW, we began the process of “waking up“ this car from its decades long slumber. Subsequently, it was thoroughly examined and serviced by a highly regarded specialist in Westchester Pennsylvania, Leading Edge AutoSport. The recommissioning included new tires, valve adjustment, new rear bump stop, oil & filter change, new brake fluid, new wiper switch, & new steering damper ($ 2,000 invoice in hand). Despite seeming obvious, we must mention that the service and parts that were required were all a function of time and age, and certainly not the result of wear or use. The car, with its new Pennsylvania State Safety inspection, is now 100% roadworthy and capable of being driven absolutely anywhere.

What makes this Volkswagen so appealing and special is that its previous owner remained committed to keeping it remarkably original. We have avoided the temptation to do any thorough cleaning or dry ice blasting on its undercarriage because it still has many of its original factory markings, original brake lines and other mechanical hardware, as well as its original protective dressing. While the specialist we employed to recommission the VW confirmed and agreed that the undercarriage is remarkably original and should remain undisturbed, he did recommend in the interest of safety and drivability, that we mount four new tires. We did not retain the tires with which it came because we could not verify that they were the originals.

In addition to the undercarriage being untouched, the exterior and interior are also in original and unmolested condition. The Beetle has retained all of its original paint and trim(very few minor paint blemishes/scuffs are visible in the photos, far too minor to justify repairing and compromising its originality). The interior and front trunk area are in as new, original condition. Please note that this car was delivered from the factory as a radio delete example and therefore still retains its proper faceplate filler panel and antenna-mount protection plug. Additionally, the original owner’s manual is in the glovebox.

To drive this car is to experience the charm and nostalgia of a new automobile from 1977! Our Beetle looks, sounds, and even smells like it did on the day it was born. We have driven it on local roads as well as highways and it has proven to be 100% reliable while performing flawlessly.
